Sunshine Community Mentoring Program

 

Students at Sunshine's Harvester Primary School are soon to have an 'Investigation & Discovery Learning Centre' thanks to the combined effort of Sunshine Plaza Centre Management, Harvester PS, Sunshine Secondary College, YouthNow and volunteer mentors. Click on photo to find out more.

Westpac in partnership with YouthNow are     running a competition for schools as part of celebrations to mark Sunshine's 150 years.

Both Primary and Secondary schools in the Sunshine and Braybrook area are invited to participate and prizes will be awarded to each education sector.

YouthNow wins Star Award

 

The work of YouthNow was recognised in the Star News Group Women in Business Awards announced on August 7.

In accepting the 2010 Business and Professional Services Category Award Colleen Bergin stressed that YouthNow's success was the result of the skills,expertise and commitment of the organisation's team and she invited them on stage to receive the award with her.

 

 

Workplace Learning Coordinators Program

Workplace Learning Coordinators

The Workplace Learning Coordinators Program seeks to improve access to quality work placement opportunities for young people aged 15-19. The program will also ensure targeted opportunities for Koorie youth. The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) has identified YouthNow as the organisation to best deliver the program in Melbourne’s Western Metropolitan region.

Career on Track

The Career on Track (CoT) program has now drawn to a close. YouthNow has enjoyed working with the young people who took advantage of this pilot program and we would like to thank the many schools and organisations that referred clients to us. Later in the year YouthNow plans to publish a report that covers these CoT activities and our impressions of the value of the program, so watch this space.

Students promote Workplace Learning

Kurunjang Seconday College

A new group of students from Kurunjang Secondary College have been recruited to take up where a pilot for the Melton Trade Training Centre left off in 2009. Gaining real life experience of life in a call centre environment these students are scouring business directories for employers interested in offering workplace learning opportunities for students from across the West. Help in this task will soon come from students from the Laverton P-12 College when they take up their control of the phones in the weeks to come.

Celebrating the 10th year of Vocational Awards in the West

On March 18th 2010 students from Western Region were presented with awards for excellence in vocational training. Sponsored by local businesses, the Department of Education & Early Childhood Development, Victoria University, Kangan Batman TAFE, and Western Youth Futures, the VET and VCAL awards celebrated the 2009 achievements of our local VET and VCAL students.
